Looking for a Different Kind of Flooring? Choose Epoxy
Flooring
You have a floor that you would like to preserve through
years of hard wear. You wonder how this can be achieved, and then you remember
your school years and how the floors never seemed to fade. Chances are that
those floors were an example of epoxy flooring.
About Epoxy Flooring
To understand what epoxy flooring is, you must first
understand what epoxy is. Epoxy is a strong polymer. The epoxy system contains
two main components: hardeners and resins. The hardeners have a smell that is
much like ammonia and are dark in color, while the resins have a lighter color
and do not have much of an odor.
So, why is epoxy flooring used? Because chemical compounds
have advanced so much in the last decades, epoxy flooring is used in areas that
are sure to get a high volume of human traffic. Epoxy flooring is used to
upgrade surfaces and protect them from wear.
Another reason why epoxy flooring has become such a popular
flooring resin to use is because it is a flexible resin. This means that the
chemical composition of the epoxy flooring can be adjusted so that it works
well for buildings and the construction industry.
There are several benefits to using epoxy flooring. In
addition to preserving a floor from things like skid marks, it also protects
the floor from other kinds of chemical solvents. If you are considering getting
epoxy flooring, there are some things important things to know about its
application.
If the epoxy resin is mixed too quickly, it will create air
bubbles, which will not dissolve within the resin. To avoid air bubbles, you
should also avoid placing the resin on the floor with a foam roller.
Also, be aware that some epoxy resins have an induction
time. This means that after the resin is mixed, it must be allowed to sit for a
few minutes. If this is not done, then the mixture may not protect the floor as
it should.
When you first place the epoxy flooring down, be aware that
it might be a bit sticky while it is drying. Thus, it is very important for you
to let the floor remain untouched for several days. With the proper care in
laying down the epoxy flooring, you are sure to have a beautiful, protected
floor that will last for many years. Tags:
